Understanding Age Appropriate Teaching and Teaching Multi-Age Groups: Scenario

Congratulations, and welcome to Grace Point Church! We're so happy to have you as our new Director of Youth Ministries.  As discussed, your role as Director will enable you to gain greater understanding of how to manage classrooms in a children’s ministry setting. 

Grace Point Church experiences a drop in Sunday School attendance between the end of school in mid-June and Fourth of July, when the summer season starts in Sea Isle City. Generally, two Sundays are involved.  Miss Gina and Miss Nancy like to combine their classes. 

Miss Gina teaches first and second graders.  At this time of year, the average ages of her students are 7 to 8, and Miss Nancy teaches third and fourth graders, ages 9 to 10.  The teachers tag-team, one preparing the lesson and one preparing a large group activity. 

You decide to attend and study the situation to observe a mixed group and see if things are working out well.
